WHAT : a collection of photos & essays about Asian women and a variety of sub-themes. It will be shown in galleries, online as a multi-media slideshow and published as a book.

WHY : Asian Women are over 1/3 of the world's population. In the 21st century both Asia's and women's influence is starting to catch up with their numbers.

WHERE : It will include people from all over Asia and also Asian women who are living outside of Asia.

WHO : Anyone is welcome to submit essays. Most will be by Asian women from all walks of life, but essays from anyone will be considered. You do not need to be a "writer" to submit.

GUIDELINES : Essays should be about 1 to 3 pages in length. Essays should not be academic style writing. Personal stories are OK if they speak to larger themes. Creativity is encouraged. Some "essays" could be a dialogue, others a poem.

Sad stories & funny stories, stories that span a few minutes & stories that span generations, Optimistic & pessimistic, Fiction & non-fiction, 1st person and 3rd person, all are welcome!

TOPICS : Your own original topics are encouraged. Topics should speaks to common themes of being an Asian woman. Anything you think will help people better understand Asian women and where they are coming from and where they are headed.

Some possible topics are...

Asia women and education, Asia women and political leadership, Asia women and religion, the "one child" policy and its effect on Chinese women, "light skin - dark skin", arranged marriages, prostitution, feet binding, the glass ceiling, divorce, international marriage, etc.

WHAT TO EXPECT : Not all essays can be published in every medium, but I hope to show all at least online. Best to contact us in advance about your ideas before spending too much time on it.

WHAT YOU GET : a copy of everything published with your essay. There is no pay for your writing but we will always credit you and you keep the copyright. If it gets republished in a paying publication you will receive the money.
