The Idea

The rise of the internet and digital cameras have brought many changes to the world and particularly the world of photo-journalism / documentary artists.

In looking for a new way forward to continue long term documentary photography projects I looked back in the history of documentary photography and found "subscription based projects"

The main idea is people, organizations, companies and art collectors interested in seeing these projects continue to be developed will "subscribe" to the project.

Subscribers will get 3 prints from the project that year and the ability to give input into the project and have questions answered.

Each of these projects will take roughly 5 years to finish and will end with a major exhibition, a documentary movie and a book.

The subscription fees will go toward covering the up front costs of these long term projects that magazines and papers can no longer afford to cover and toward the costs of exhibiting these projects.

Oppressed yet optimistic ethnic and religious minority in Burma	Japan's largest National Park "The Playground of the Gods"	Showing the Japanese and the world the Ainu have not totally assimilated and vanished

The Phuket Vegetarian Festival	Islamic Thailand	The Mae Tao Clinic
Documenting the spirit of the festival beyond the blood and gore	Showing the beauty and dignity of Thailand's muslim minority	Free clinic for Myanmar migrants in Thailand Images will be given to the clinic for fundraising

I plan to spend between 2 weeks and 2 months per year documenting each of these projects.

Depending on the needs of the project that year and also the number of subscribers.

The Details

Individual subscribers will get three - 8" x 12" prints from the project that year for just 100USD a year.

The subscription includes shipping to most locations

These prints are special signed and numbered editions for subscribers and will be sent with a thank you message.

After the subscription period these prints can be sold, but will be unnumbered and cost several times the subscription price.

Each project will have a blog so subscribers can stay up to date with the progress

For matted prints add 50% to the basic subscription price

For larger 10" x 15" prints add 50% to the basic subscription price

For panel mounted prints add 100% ( X 2) to the basic subscription price

Subscriber who join for 3 or more years in advance will get an extra print per year

Any subscriber who subscribes for 5 years in advance will get the extra print per year + their name in the book when it is published and a free signed copy

Any subscriber who subscribes to more than one project can get 2 - 8" x 12" prints and 1- larger 10" x 15" print per project

Organizations or companies will receive 3 - 20" x 30" signed and numbered poster prints plus their name listed on this site and at exhibitions of the project.

For organizations, (school, NGO, gallery) subscriptions are just 300USD per year. For businesses subscriptions are just 400USD per year.

If a company or organization subscribes for 5 years they will receive 3 copies of the book when it is published. For an extra 100USD they can advertise their color logo instead of plain print.

There are now 2 confirmed exhibitions for these projects and many more to come

In addition there can be one grand sponsor per project. The grand sponsor will get their name or logo larger and first on the list of subscribers, the first of the signed prints, 3 - 20" x 30" & 4 - 10" x 15" for just 600USD per year

If an individual, organization or company can offer something that is useful for the documenting or exhibiting of these projects I welcome "in kind" subscribers

In addition there may be one volunteer subscriber per project that puts in 10-20 hours per year to help organize the project
